Summer 2025 Hiring Update

By Alessandra Suuberg, Decency LLC

Thank you again to all who applied for a remote summer position with Decency LLC in 2025.

Since 2022, Decency has been recruiting yearly for remote, flexible summer assistance, taking on candidates from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds to create content, learn new skills, and draw on their existing knowledge to research developments in the healthcare system.

This year, Decency is putting summer hiring on hiatus, as no candidate meeting the company’s needs has emerged from the applicant cohort.

Statistics and Advice for Future Cohorts

In the last month, Decency received more than 90 applications. Three applicants received an invitation to interview, and two followed up on the invitation.

The following is some advice for applicants in future cycles who would like to increase their odds of an interview.

1. Read the instructions in the job description. Every year, Decency has requested an application consisting of a resume and a cover letter. Every year, a staggering number of submissions do not include a cover letter.

2. Show an understanding of the company and role. Decency LLC is not a law firm and does not handle cases for legal clients, so applicants seeking experience or training as a paralegal or legal secretary would not find that here.

Applicants should also understand that Decency LLC is focused on healthcare. Applicants preparing for careers unrelated to healthcare risk boredom with exclusively healthcare-focused assignment memoranda.

3. Show a clear interest in healthcare. Make sure to highlight some academic or professional connection to the healthcare field. While this can be as modest as a volunteer position, clearly indicating, e.g., the nature, timeframe, and responsibilities of the position can help me evaluate your skills and depth of commitment.

When evaluating a connection to healthcare, I particularly notice:

  • Whether your experience is practical. Decency focuses in significant part on what happens when well-intentioned policies meet real-world practice. Every day spent serving clients, patients, or families yields new firsthand, unfiltered insights, beyond those that applicants gain from classroom or research roles alone.

  • Whether your experience is non-redundant for Decency’s purposes. If you show hard-earned firsthand work experience in a role or area that does not overlap with my own background, then you have particular value to add to the company.

Applicant Profiles: Invited to Interview in 2025

This year, of the three applications resulting in an invitation to interview:

  • One showed experience with blood drive and healthcare organization fundraising efforts, as a complement to premedical studies.

  • One showed experience as a classroom paraprofessional.

  • One showed work with fundraising and families for a medical charity, in addition to experience with typically healthcare-associated legal specialities.

If Your Application Was Not Selected
