Alessandra Suuberg

In 2016 I left an in-house corporate patent attorney position and moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, driven by a longstanding interest in healthcare.

Since that time I have been building a familiarity with this field and industry from various angles through coursework; research experience in genetics, psychology, and machine learning for drug design (three different labs); clinical work as an ABA therapist; legal aid work on healthcare-related cases; a stint in the start-up world; the occasional research paper; and additional roles with organizations or agencies focused on citizen science, crisis services, social services, and disability services and advocacy.

A 2018-2022 non-profit called TIA Inc. was my first effort to put the lessons learned from 2016 onward into practice, highlighting new developments in healthcare and encouraging careful consideration of their implications.

However, TIA’s work was effectively stymied by the COVID-19 pandemic, as public health emergencies are a time to act fast—not sit and reflect on the meaning of “decency” in healthcare. (Which is complicated.)

Decency LLC is the follow-up to that effort.
